SACRAMENTO -- Third baseman Carlyn Rojas hit a three-run home run to back the two-hit pitching of Holly Yost and Nicole DiSalvio, as 22nd-ranked Cal opened the Capital Classic with a 7-0 victory over Arkansas.
The Bears, who won for the eighth straight time, improved to 16-9 on the year, while the Lady Razorbacks fell to 5-16.
Cal started the game with four runs in the top of the first inning. After center fielder Amber Phillips doubled to center, second baseman Lisa Iancin followed with an RBI double to left. First baseman Jenny Ackley singled to put runners at the corners, and with two outs, Rojas socked her fourth homer of the year to left field.
The Bears added to their lead with three runs in the fourth inning. Cal loaded the bases with no outs, then tallied three runs on a passed ball, an error and a wild pitch.
Yost, who upped her record to 2-0, gave up two singles and struck out four in three innings. DiSalvio tossed the final two innings and did not surrender a base hit. The game was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Cal continues playing in the 16-team tournament through Sunday.
