BERKELEY, Calif. -- The California softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of the Pacific in a non-conference match up Saturday afternoon at Strawberry Field. The loss dropped the Golden Bears to 8-6, while Pacific evened its record at 5-5 with the victory.
Tiger pitcher Brandee McArther hurled a complete-game five-hitter to lead Pacific to victory in the first game of the scheduled doubleheader. The Tigers runs were both driven home on a two-out single to right by Lorin Garbarino in the top of the third inning.
The Bears were led by shortstop Katie May and second baseman Lisa Iancin who both went 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
The second game of the twin bill was rained out.
The eighth-ranked California softball team will continue its current homestand, Sunday, March 8, when the Bears host Bay Area rival No. 17 Stanford at 1 p.m. in the Pac-10 opener for both teams.
