CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - With the eighth, ninth and first spots in the line-up producing, coupled with homers from a pair of freshmen, the No. 1/3 California softball team earned itself a 5-0 win over Fordham on Friday afternoon. Senior pitcher Valerie Arioto put forth a complete-game two-hitter, fanning nine. With the win, Arioto improves her personal pitching record to 4-0 while the Bears move to 9-0 and Fordham drops to 2-5. The Jolene Henderson-Frani Echavarria-Jamia Reid punch paid dividends for the Golden Bears with runs in the second and sixth innings. Homers from Danielle Henderson and Breana Kostreba helped the Cal cause in the fourth and seventh, respectively. Top of the Second - California 1, Fordham 0: Jolene Henderson earned a two-out walk, moved to second thanks to a single to left by Frani Echavarria and scored when Jamia Reid singled to center. Top of the Fourth - California 3, Fordham 0: After Cheyenne Cordes waited out an eight-pitch at-bat for a walk, Danielle Henderson homered to left. Top of the Sixth - California 4, Fordham 0: Jolene Henderson registered a two-out single to center, moved to second with a single down the right-field line by Echavarria and then a double by Jamia Reid plated Henderson.
