Tyesia Hunter Signs Letter of Intent to Play Softball at Cal
BERKELEY, Calif. -- Tyesia Hunter, who set numerous records during her softball career at Oakland's Skyline HS, has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal, head coach Diane Ninemire announced.
Hunter, an infielder who concentrates at shortstop, batted .578 with 24 home runs, 114 RBI and 110 runs during her career. An honorable mention prep All-American, Hunter had a career slugging percentage of 1.228.
As a senior last season, Hunter batted .544 with seven homers and 43 RBI in 20 games, an average of more than 2 RBI per contest.
Hunter joins three other Cal signees for the 1998 season: pitcher Nicole DiSalvio of Corona, and outfielder Amber Phillips and utility player Pauline Duenas, both from Chula Vista.
Last season, Cal finished with 36-26 record and a No. 11 national ranking.
