BERKELEY - Lisa Kevorkian played an instrumental role in Cal's two Pac-10 Conference victories this weekend with a goal in a 2-0 win against Arizona and the game-winner in a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against Arizona State, making the redshirt junior forward the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
On Oct. 30, Kevorkian had the assist on the game-winning goal in the third minute against Arizona. While on a fast break, Kevorkian passed the ball to Amanda Groves, who shot it to the back right corner to give Cal a 1-0 lead, which it never surrendered. Kevorkian teamed up with junior forward Alex Morgan to distance the Bears, 2-0, with just under 37 minutes remaining in regulation. Escaping defenders, Morgan dribbled the ball past the diving Arizona keeper Devon Wharf in the box, and passed to Kevorkian, who was on the near side just above the end line. Kevorkian shot the ball in for her sixth goal of the season.
After being honored prior to kickoff as one of the squad's seniors, Kevorkian scored the game-winning goal at 97:36 to propel her Bears to a 3-2 victory over Arizona State on Nov. 1. After taking five shots through the first 97 minutes of play, Kevorkian put one through at 97:36 for her team-leading fourth game-winner of the 2009 season. Katie Suits crossed the ball to Kevorkian, who headed it in for a score and the win.
Kevorkian has now netted a goal in each of Cal's past three games. She paces the Bears with four game-winning goals and is second on the team with seven goals and three assists. With her seven goals and four game-winners, she has broken her previous personal season-high of six goals and three game-winning goals, both of which she had set in 2008.
