Morgan Named to U.S. U-20 World Cup Roster

BERKELEY - California women's soccer sophomore forward Alex Morgan was named to the 20-player roster for the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team, it was announced Monday by U.S. Soccer and head coach Tony DiCicco. The team will travel to Chile for the 2008 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, which takes places Nov. 19-Dec. 7.

Morgan, who has been actively training with the team since April, has already contributed six goals in games with the U-20 squad. The Diamond Bar, Calif., product has a team-high nine goals for the Golden Bears this season, including one in the 2-0 win over Arizona on Oct. 26. She also has five assists and leads Cal in scoring with 23 points.

The U.S. team was drawn into Group B of the 16-team tournament and will open the World Cup by playing group opponent France on Nov. 19. DiCicco's team then takes on Argentina on Nov. 22, with the United States' first two games occurring at the Estadio Nelson Oyarzun in Chillan, Chile. The team will then play China on Nov. 26 at the Estadio German Becker in Temuco, Chile.

Morgan joins fellow collegiate players from 17 different universities, including three from fellow Pac-10 schools in Sydney Leroux (UCLA), Kiersten Dallstream (Washington State) and Liz Harkin (Arizona State).

The Bears continue their Pac-10 conference schedule this weekend against USC on Oct. 31 and UCLA on Nov. 2.
