BERKELEY - Lauren Battung led her California women's soccer team to a 3-2 conference win over Washington on Friday in quite dramatic fashion, making the sophomore forward the California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week. Battung netted her second score of the game with just four seconds remaining in regulation, after the Cal women's soccer team allowed its 2-0 lead to slip to a 2-2 tie. Battung scored the first (47:30) and last (89:56) goals of the game to improve the Golden Bears to 6-3-4 overall and 1-2-0 in the Pac-10 Conference. After 47 minutes of scoreless play, freshman Rachel Mercik shot the ball, but was stopped by UW keeper Jorde Lafontaine-Kussman. Battung handily collected the rebound and shot it in the back left corner, giving Cal a 1-0 lead. With Cal leading, 2-1, the Huskies tied the conference match at 89:18. With just seconds remaining on the clock, the referee called a foul on Washington. Cal hastily assembled to take a direct free kick. With a keen awareness of the clock, Battung chipped the goal in for the gamewinner. Battung scored her fifth and sixth goals. Muscle Milk California Student-Athletes of the Week
