BERKELEY - Sophomore forward Katie Suits has helped the No. 7 California women's soccer team to its 6-1-0 record, playing in five games for the Golden Bears. With two brothers who played on collegiate soccer teams and parents who also played intercollegiate sports during their college days, Katie Suits was a natural-born soccer player. Suits has found a great niche in Berkeley, and notes that she chose Cal for its phenomenal combination of academics and athletics. CalBears.com chatted with Suits to find out more about her personality away from the pitch.

CalBears.com: In your bio Q&A, you mentioned that NorCal is better than SoCal, what makes that so?
Katie Suits: SoCal is great, don't get me wrong. It's where my hometown is, and the beach is something I could never live without. However, NorCal and the City just offer so many different things, and the materialistic environment is drastically less. I like how low maintenance it is up here.

CalBears.com: Who would you want to be stranded on a deserted island with?
KS: Camellia Senemar.

CalBears.com: Your brother, Matt, played soccer at San Diego State and your other brother, Danny, currently is a member of UCLA's soccer team - was collegiate soccer always in the cards for you? What was it like growing up in such an athletically minded family?
KS: The Suits have always been known as the soccer family. My brothers and I have been playing soccer since kindergarten. My parents are both former division 1 college athletes - my mom played tennis at Providence College and my dad played basketball at UConn - so they always encouraged us to be active and involved in some type of sport. My brothers and I were all good at soccer, so the focus on soccer was heavily emphasized in the house. Eating dinner at all different times on the weekdays, traveling to tournaments on the weekends, and showing up to church in soccer clothes was typical. I would definitely say that Matt and Danny inspired me to want to work to play in college from day one. I've thought I would play college soccer since middle school.

CalBears.com: You also competed in track and field at Los Alamitos HS, what made you choose soccer as your college sport? What events did you compete in?
KS: Soccer was always top priority compared to track. Track was more of a secondary, fun, off-season sport. I was pretty fast but not fast enough to run at the next level. High-school fast is nothing. I ran the 400, the 4x1 relay the 100, the 200 and the 4x4 relay.

CalBears.com: What characteristic in people do you most admire?
KS: Honesty. I appreciate when people are their true selves.

CalBears.com: If you had a time machine, what year would you travel to?
KS: That's easy! I would go to Aug. 15-18, 1969, for Woodstock! I was born in the wrong era.

CalBears.com: What would you like to be doing in 10 years?
KS: I am praying on having a husband and a baby or two by then. Hopefully taking some time off my successful career.

KS: I would want to fly
