March 1, 2012

LAGOS, Portugal - Former California women's soccer All-American Alex Morgan continues to shine on the International stage. The forward scored twice and assisted on a third goal to lead the United States Women's National Team to a 5-0 victory in its group opener during competition at the 2012 Algarve Cup.

The United States played a 4-4-2 formation with Morgan and teammate Abby Wambach starting up top.

Morgan scored her first goal of the match in the 21st minute, taking a pass from Heather O'Reilly and sending a shot from 16 yards out that ricocheted off the left post and into the net.

Just before halftime, Morgan sent a cross to a free Wambach, who found the back of the net from the top of the box.

Morgan recorded her second tally of the night in the 84th minute, giving her a team-best eight goals so far this year.

The U.S. will face Norway on Friday at 7 a.m. PT in Lagos, Portugal. Fans can follow all the action on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker.
