Cal and San Diego Battle to 2-2 Tie in Double OT

SAN DIEGO -- The Bears posted their first tie of the season, battling overtime with the University of San Diego for a 2-2 draw Friday evening in San Diego, Calif.

USD got on the board first with a goal by Claire Currie at the 41-minute mark. The Bears answered quickly as Cal's Amy Balavac got the Bears right back in the match, netting her first goal of the season on an assist from Gretchen Vanderlip only two minutes later.

The Bears struck early in the second half to open a 2-1 advantage on Balavac's second goal of the match. Taking a pass from Courtney Carroll in the game's 47th-minute, Balavac fired the ball into the net from 18 yards out.

But, Cal couldn't hold the lead. With 26 minutes remaining, a cross from USD's Aimee Wagstaff glanced of a Cal defender in to the Bears goal, knotting the match at 2-2.

Despite playing two overtime sessions, neither team could manage a goal.

Cal, who was out shot for the first time this season, 19-9, moved to 1-1-1 on the year. The tie moved USD's record to 0-2-1.
