EUGENE, Ore. - Senior midfielder Caitlin Hannegan posted two goals to lead No. 12 California to a 3-0 victory over Oregon Sunday at Pape' Field in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Golden Bears improved to 14-5 overall (6-3 Pac-10) with their sixth straight win and 10th shutout of the season, while the Ducks finished 2007 at 8-8-4 (1-4-4).
Hannegan tallied her first goal from 18 yards in the 42nd minute off a pass from sophomore midfielder Katie Oakes. Hannegan, who now has five goals this year, extended the Bears' margin to 2-0 with a 23-yard shot to the right side of the net in the 55th minute.
Senior forward Valerie Barnes recorded the final goal of the day - her fifth in the last four games - on a breakaway goal in the 85th minute. Barnes is now tied for the team lead with seven goals with freshman forward Alex Morgan.
Cal held an 11-8 shot advantage, with Hannegan, Morgan and Katherine Daiss leading the way for the Bears with two shots each. Sophomore goalkeeper Gina Pellegrini made two saves for Cal, and Oregon goalkeeper Jessie Chatfield saved one shot.
Cal is expecting to earn its 15th NCAA Tournament selection when the bids are announced Monday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m. PT on ESPNews.
