BERKELEY - California collected another honor for its work in the classroom last season, when the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association named the 2012 Golden Bears one of 42 IWLCA Academic Squads, the coaches' organization announced Wednesday.

Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned IWLCA Academic Squad honors.

Cal excelled academically in its first season under head coach Ginger Miles, also placing 12 Bears on the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team.

On the field, Miles led the Bears to an 8-8 overall record (4-3 in the MPSF). Cal - which played at Witter Rugby Field the last two years - will return to Memorial Stadium for the 2013 season.
