BERKELEY - As part of an effort to introduce - or re-introduce - lacrosse to the Native American youth in the San Francisco Bay Area and to combat obesity in Native American populations, California will host the Iroquoi Lacrosse Program's Lacrosse Clinic for Native Youth on Saturday, June 2, Golden Bear head coach Ginger Miles announced. Boys and girls aged nine to 21 are invited to participate in the free clinic, which will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Maxwell Family Field on the Cal campus. No experience is necessary.

The clinic will include instruction by Kevin Sandy - the Iroquoi Lacrosse Program's Director of Operations - and Miles, a historical perspective (with Sandy speaking on the origins of the game), scrimmages, contests, prizes and more. To reserve your spot, please email Paloma Flores at the Native American Health Center at palomaf@nativehealth.org.

"We are so excited to host and be a part of an event like this at Cal," Miles said. "When I learned of the many grave health issues such as obesity facing the Native American youth in the Bay Area today, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to host this clinic. It should be a fun and highly educational day for the youth, and we hope that many will continue on with the sport in the future. Having a speaker such as Kevin Sandy is such a highlight, and I hope that we can host more events like this in the future!"
