This marks the busiest week of the season for California, as the Golden Bears (6-5, 3-2 in the MPSF) play three games in five days starting with a 1 p.m. match on Tuesday, April 10, against Fresno State (2-7, 0-3 MPSF) on Witter Rugby Field. After that MPSF match-up, Cal flies to the East Coast to play at Vermont (8-5) on Thursday, April 12, at 2 p.m. PT and at No. 20 Boston College (6-7) on Saturday, April 14, at 10 a.m. PT in nonconference action.
Scouting the Golden Bears
Junior attackers Megan Takacs and Melissa Humphrey remain among the nation's leaders in offensive statistics this week, with Takacs leading the nation with 4.09 goals per game and ranking fourth in total goals (45), 14th in points per game (4.55) and 26th in total points (50)
Takacs is five goals from breaking the school's single-season goals record of 49, which Sarah Wheatley set in 1999, the first year of the program; her current total of 45 ties Takacs with former Cal star Laura Cavallo, who scored 45 goals in 2007, for second place
Takacs also leads the MPSF and ranks eighth nationally with 5.09 draw controls per game; she leads Cal with 56 draws
Nationally, Humphrey ranks 15th with 2.27 assists per game and 16th with 25 total assists; she is second in the MPSF in assists per game
Humphrey's 25 assists ranks her third in Cal's single-season history; record-holder Colleen O'Mara collected 41 assists in 2004 and 27 assists in 2003
Takacs earned an MPSF Player of the Week accolade after scoring 11 goals in a pair of 18-9 wins over Detroit Mercy and San Diego State in San Diego
Humphrey claimed an MPSF Player of the Week after scoring a school-record tying nine goals and posting a school-record six assists in Cal's 18-6, season-opening win over Saint Mary's
Senior midfielder Emily Abbood leads Cal with 21 ground balls
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan McGinnis has put together a 10.80 goals-against average and a .421 save percentage in 11 starts
