Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - Senior attacker Laura Cavallo scored a game-high seven points to lead fourth-seeded California to an 11-5 victory over fifth-seeded UC Davis in the quarterfinal round of the MPSF Championship on Friday afternoon at Aggie Stadium in Davis, Calif. The Golden Bears, whose record improved to 7-8, move on to play top-seeded and 15th-ranked Denver tomorrow.

The seven-point total ties a career high for Cavallo, who scored four goals and tallied three assists against UC Davis (8-9). She also scored seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) against La Salle on March 8, 2005.

With 43 goals on the season, Cavallo is just one shy of tying her single-season career high that she set in 2005, when she scored 44 goals in 19 games. Now at 57 points this year, Cavallo is five points shy of tying her single-season career high of 62 she also set in 2005. Already Cal's all-time leading scorer, Cavallo now has 197 career points.

Senior goalkeeper Hilary Lynch made six saves for the Bears against Davis. Cal, which also beat its fellow UC, 15-7, during the regular season, now has a 13-4 record in the all-time series with the Aggies.

Sophomore Ghillie Little put Cal ahead just 37 seconds into the game with a strike set up by senior midfielder Liz Reifsnyder. UC Davis tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Molly Lapolla at 2:59, but the Bears went on a 3-0 run with goals by Reifsnyder, Cavallo and sophomore Madeleine Dale to take a 4-1 lead at 10:31.

The Aggies' Patrice Clark scored at 12:42 to make the score 4-2, but Cal scored four straight - on goals by Cavallo, freshman midfielder Alyse Kennedy, Reifsnyder and freshman defender Alex Tickner - to take an 8-2 lead at 29:10. The Bears led by that same score at halftime.

Cal and UC Davis each scored three goals in the second half, and the Bears went on to win 11-5.

Also on Friday in the conference tournament, third-seeded Stanford beat sixth-seeded Saint Mary's, 20-7.

Cal takes on Denver at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday at Aggie Stadium after the fifth-place game between UC Davis and Saint Mary's scheduled for 1 p.m.
