Box Score

ATHENS, Ohio - California sophomore Laura Cavallo scored five goals in her second straight game to lead the Golden Bears to a 10-8 win over host Ohio University on Friday at Pruitt Field. The Bears improve to 8-5 (2-1 MPSF), while the Bobcats fall to 3-7 (1-3 ALC).

Cavallo also scored five goals in Cal's previous game, a 19-5 rout of Saint Mary's on Tuesday, April 5, in Berkeley. The product of Bay Shore, N.Y., has now scored a team-high 33 goals and 46 points in the 2005 season.

Her fifth goal against Ohio had given Cal a 10-5 lead at the 44:37 mark. But the Bears had to endure a hat trick by Dana Dobbie in the final minutes before getting the win. Dobbie, the Bobcats' leading scorer this season, tied Cavallo for game-high scoring honors with four goals and an assist.

After Kelly Windle's free position shot put Ohio up 1-0 at 1:38, Cal rattled off the game's next four goals - Cavallo scored twice and junior Leanne Zilioli and freshman Danni Zuralow each scored once - to take a 4-1 lead. Zuralow, the only other Bear besides Cavallo to score more than one goal, scored her second off a free position shot at 15:25 to give Cal a 5-2 lead. Ohio then subbed out starting goalkeeper Jayme Levy, who had allowed five goals during an eight-minute span, and replaced her with Jen Heup, who made 10 saves and allowed Cal's final give goals in a little less than 45 minutes.

Bears sophomore Jocelyn Paul scored at 21:11 and senior teammate Molly Brady scored with two seconds left on the first-half clock to give Cal a 7-3 lead at the break.

Cavallo was the only Bear to score - a goal or an assist - in the second half. After notching pair of unassisted strikes at 33:33 and 41:57, Cavallo converted a free position shot to give Cal its five-goal lead. The Bears held on despite Dobbie's three-goal onslaught.

Cal sophomore goalkeeper Hilary Lynch made 14 saves in 60 minutes' worth of action.

The Bears play fourteenth-ranked Ohio State at 1 p.m. ET this Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.
