Getting to Know Alex Leggitt



Junior Alexandra Leggitt is beginning her third season as an integral part of the Cal gymnastics team. Leggitt, an honorable mention last season for the Pac-10 All-Academic Team, posted Cal's top mark on beam in 2010, a 9.825 in the Denver meet.

She began her career competing on vault and floor and has progressed to become one of the team's top performers on beam as well.

Here are some other things you may not know about Alex Leggitt:

Of what sport teams are you a fan? The Lakers and Angels baseball

When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A guitar-playing ice skater (seriously)

Now what do you want to be after you graduate? A doctor of veterinary medicine

Of what are you most proud? Going to Cal

If you could be on any TV show, which would it be? MTV's "Made" so I could become a black belt in martial arts or "Cupcake Wars" on the Food Network

What is your favorite article of clothing? All my lululemon workout clothes

Where is your favorite place to relax? My home in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Who has been your favorite professor or class at Cal? Bernard Griego (Public Health 14) and Helen Lew (MCB32)

If you had a time machine, what year/era would you like to travel to? The years my great grandfather was mayor in the Philippines. I'd like to meet him (at an age I could remember).

What is one thing about your hometown that you miss? Lots of parking and no meter maids

What do you like best about gymnastics? It keeps me strong and healthy. I'll never be in such good all around shape (I mean every muscle, not the event).

What is your favorite sports movie? Rudy

What is your favorite non-sports movie of all-time? Up

What is your favorite recent movie? The Lovely Bones

Do you have any pets? My puppy who lives with me at school is a Pomchi named Bear. I have wiener dogs back home in So Cal.

 

 

What is your favorite place you have traveled to? Bangkok, Thailand

What challenge do you find in gymnastics that you do not find in any other sport? You have to be equally strong mentally and physically. You cannot sacrifice one over the other.

What is a secret talent that few people know you have? I know how to give subcutaneous fluids to dehydrated animals.
