BERKELEY, Calif. - Five California gymnasts were named Academic All-Americans for the 2006-07 season. Seniors Elyse Wong and Justine Cephus, junior Nicki Wells, sophomore Vanna Rocchi and freshman Sophia Hocini were all honored for their scholastic and athletic performances during the 2006-07 season.

After posting a 3.7 grade point average, Wong earned recognition for the third time at Cal and will graduate in the fall with a degree in civil engineering. Wong improved during the 2006-07 season and posted a season-high 9.725 on the floor at the Pac-10 championships.

Cephus, a political science major, finished with a 3.67 GPA and achieved several career-highs during her final season with the Bears. Wells, a statistics major, led the Bears academically, achieving a team-high 4.0.

Rochi (undeclared) and Hochini (undeclared) also made the list after closing the year with 3.56 and 3.5 GPAs, respectively. Hochini notched her career-best on the bars (9.600) at NCAA regionals and was a consistent high achiever for the Bears on the vault.
