DAVIS, CALIF. - The California Golden Bears earned a team score of 190.650 in the Sunday, March 14 Tri-Meet hosted by UC Davis. The Aggies of Davis won the meet with a 194.600. Texas Women's University was second with a 192.825. For the sixth straight meet, the floor was the strongest event for the Bears. Avery Gee earned a 9.850 for her routine. The score matched Gee's career high and also tied the top score for any Cal gymnast in any event during the 2010 season. Freshman Mariesah Pierce was nearly as strong, earning a 9.825 for her performance. Sophomore Alex Leggitt performed a clean routine, nailing a 9.725. The Bears had three gymnasts earn 9.700 or higher for their balance beam performances. Freshman Madisyn O'Brien scored a 9.775, the top Cal score in the event this season, tying her for third in the event. O'Brien's previous career high on the beam was a 9.650. Avery Gee scored a 9.750 and Mariesah Pierce a 9.700. Each of the five Bear vaulters posted a 9.500 or higher with four ranging at 9.600 or higher. Freshman Chelsea Spomer paced the Cal gymnasts with a 9.675. The Bears did not fare as well on the bars, an event that has troubled them all season. Arla Rosenzweig had the top mark, earning a 9.600. The Bears have one regular-season meet remaining before heading to the Pac-10 Championships. They will be in Denver for a Quad Meet against the University of Denver, NC State, and Arizona on Saturday, March 20.
