STANFORD - The California women's gymnastics team lost to No. 7 Stanford, Sunday afternoon at Burnham Pavilion. The Golden Bears (2-6, 0-6 Pac-10) finished with a season-high final score of 193.100, while the Cardinal (6-4, 2-1 Pac-10) secured a mark of 197.375.
Stanford swept all four events. The best event score of the day for the Bears came on bars (48.850). Senior Siobhan Luce and juniors Jessica Kelley and Bridgette Glass led the way for Cal in that event, each tallying a 9.800. Also on bars, sophomore Sophia Hocini and freshman Nassim Mirreghabie posted new personal bests, each notching a 9.725.
"I'm so proud of them," said Cal head coach Cari DuBois. "They worked hard all week in practice, and they were positive and focused. We set our team goals for this meet and they went out and attacked them. They went out today and just had fun. They're getting there. We had strong finishes and great performances across the board."
Hocini tied her personal best on beam with a 9.750. Mirreghabie set a new PR on vault with a 9.650. Also on vault, freshman Stefanie Cheng recorded a new personal best (9.625).
The Bears scored their highest individual score of the day four times on three different events. Luce notched a 9.825 on vault, freshman Avery Gee secured the same mark on floor, while Glass and senior Keiko Nakamura earned a 9.825 on beam.
"We had a lot of great performances like Siobhan on vault, and Bridgette and Keiko on beam," DuBois said. "That was the best I've seen Keiko perform on beam in an actual competition."
