BERKELEY - Several gymnasts scored career-best marks to lead the California women's gymnastics team to a 193.275 - 190.625 victory over UC Davis Sunday afternoon inside Haas Pavilion.
Junior Stina Olivere matched her career-high score and sophomore Dallas Crawford set her career-best mark as each scored a 9.875 to tie for first place on the uneven bars and lead Cal to a season-high team score of 49.150 in the event. The mark was the Bears' first score of 49 or better on the bars since March 16, 2008 when Cal scored a 49.075 against Cal-State Fullerton, UC Davis and San Jose State. Junior Madisyn O'Brien also set a career-best mark of 9.850 to place third overall in the event. Junior Mariesah Pierce followed UC Davis' Katie Yamamura (9.825) with a career-best 9.800 to place fifth on the bars, while fellow junior Carol Chang matched her career mark with a score of 9.750 to finish sixth for the Bears.
Pierce scored a career-best 9.850 to tie for top honors with UC Davis' Anna Shumaker on the vault. Crawford placed fourth in the event with a career-high score of 9.750, while Olivere and junior Arla Rosenzweig tied for fifth overall with a score of 9.675.
Sophomore Lina Nilsson scored a 9.700 to lead Cal in the floor exercise and place third overall. Fellow sophomore Alicia Asturias was right behind with a score of 9.675 to finish fourth and Paz scored a 9.650 to for fifth place with UC Davis' Madeline Kennedy. Katie Yamamura took first place for the Aggies (2-6) in the floor exercise with a score of 9.800.
Pierce recorded a score of 38.150 in the all-around to place second to Yamamura's 38.375.
Cal will be back in action at Haas Pavilion next Sunday, Feb. 12, as the Bears host Stanford at noon in a double-dual with the men's gymnastics team.
