University of California gymnasts celebrated their breakthrough season at the team banquet Saturday evening at California Memorial Stadium.
Aside from contributing to one of the most successful seasons in California women's gymnastics history, half of the Golden Bear squad has been acknowledged for outstanding performances outside of the gym as well. Seven members of the Cal women's gymnastics team were selected for the Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics All-Academic Teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Wednesday.
It wasn't the score they had hoped for, but on a grander scale, the Golden Bears finished their 2013 season with success that cannot be measured by 10.0 start values and final team placements. The California women's gymnastics team placed sixth at the NCAA West Regionals in Corvallis, Ore. with a score of 195.125, behind Georgia (197.425), Arkansas (196.950), Arizona State (195.700), Oregon State (195.375) and Boise State (195.350).
University of California women's gymnastics head coach Justin Howell picked up his second coaching award of the season as he was named the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches' (NACGC) West Region Coach of the Year Wednesday.
