BERKELEY - Head Coach Nancy McDaniel was named the LPGA Teaching and Coaching Professionals Western Section Coach of the Year for 2012. Coach McDaniel now enters a pool with the other five section winners to win the national award.

Last year, McDaniel guided the Golden Bears to their first Pac-12 Championship since 2003. She led them to two team tournament wins, the Peg Barnard Invitational and the Juli Inkster Spartan Classic, both in February of 2012. The team was ranked number one nationally in short game for the second year in a row.

Individually, McDaniel was the coach of Cal's Joanne Lee, who was #2 nationally in short game for an individual. On the squad, she coached two Academic All-Americans, 1 All-American, 3 All Pac-12 Conference Players, and her squad included three tournament medalists.

Off the course, last year Coach McDaniel brought back $80,000 through fundraising efforts to help support her program. She is also on Board of Directors for the 1st Tee of Oakland and the 1st Tee National Golf Advisory Committee. She sits on the NCAA Selection Committee and is the Co-Founder of the Collegiate Golf Academy.

Coach McDaniel has been the head coach of the Golden Bear women's golf team since 1994. Since then, she's coached Cal to seven NCAA tournament appearances, as well as 11 straight regional appearances. McDaniel has mentored 15 All-Americans in her first 17 seasons as coach, and captained the team to 26 tournament victories. She was previously honored as NGCA, LPGA and Golfweek's National Coach of the year for the 2002-03 season.
