BERKELEY -

California Golden Bear junior Pia Halbig has been named a Golfweek preseason third team All-American. Halbig, who led the Bears last season with a 73.0 stroke average, earned post season third team All-American honors from Golfweek in 2008-09 as well being an honorable mention for the NGCA All-American award.

Halbig had a successful offseason, playing on the German team that won the European Amateur Team Championship and the continental European squad that won the Vagliano Trophy. Halbig was also the individual medalist at the Slovenian International Ladies Championship.

Halbig and the rest of her Cal teammates begin the 2009-10 golf season this weekend when they tee off at the Golfweek Challenge, being held Spet. 13-15 at the Primm Golf Resort near Las Vegas, Nevada.
