California Golden Bear senior Daniela Holmqvist has been named the Pac-12 Women's Golfer of the Month for March, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. It is the first time that a Bear has earned the honor.
Holmqvist, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden, started the month of March with a 1-under 215 (71-69-75) to finish one stroke off the lead at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational and led the Bears to the team title. In the month's second tournament, she posted a 2-over 146 (74-72) to post a fifth place finish at the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn. Then capped off the month with the first medalist honors of her Cal career when she posted a four-stroke victory at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Kapalua Resort in Maui, shooting a 2-under par 214 (68-70-76).
Holmqvist had four rounds under par this month (out of eight), including two sub-70 rounds. She had a 71.875 stroke average in her three tournaments this month.
Holmqvist has moved up to No. 29 in the latest Golfweek individual rankings, the highest ranking for her so far in her career.
The Bears return to action with the Pacific Intercollegiate on April 16-17 in Half Moon Bay, Calif., followed by the Pac-12 Championships on April 27-29 in Pullman, Wash.
