BERKELEY - The California women's golf team will host the Cal Classic at the Ruby Hill Golf Course in Pleasanton, Calif., beginning this Monday at 9 a.m. The Bears will be one of the first teams to tee off in the 11-team tournament. Competing at the Cal Classic are No. 17 Arizona State, California, Coastal Carolina, Fresno State, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, No. 8 Stanford, No. 15 UC Davis, USF and UNLV. The first year, 36-hole event will take place at the par-72, 6,203-yard Ruby Hill Golf Course with live scoring available at Golf Stat. The Bears, fresh off a second-place finish at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Palo Alto, remain in the Bay Area for the second straight week and will go with the lineup of Morgan Thompson, Hannah Suh, Carly Childs, Jackie Williams and Nicola Rossler. Thompson finished fourth in the spring opener with a 69-72=141 (-1). Competing as individuals will be Joi Pentin, Roberta Roller, Pauline Loulier and Jo Ee Kok. Fans are encouraged to cheer on their Bears, including four Bay Area team members that will get to compete in their home communities. Pentin is from Pleasanton, and Childs, Suh and Williams will also get the chance to compete in a California-hosted tournament in the Bay Area.
