KAHUKU, HAWAII -

The No. 10 California Golden Bears women's golf team closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a fourth-place finish at the Turtle Bay Resort College Invite.

The Bears started the tournament strong, opening with a first round 290, the dropping three strokes in the second round to post a 287. The third round, the first round to be played on the par-72 6,361 yard Arnold Palmer course, proved more challenging for the team who scored a 306 on the final 18 holes to finish at +19 for the tournament. Cal finished four strokes behind third-place USC. UC Davis won the team title at +4. (note: there was a late score correction that added two strokes to Cal's final team score from initial score reports. This story now reflects those corrections and the final scores for the team and individuals)

Sophomore Emily Childs was the top individual for the Bears. Childs 68 in the second round was the low round of the tournament among the Cal golfers, and her collegiate personal low round. Junior Pia Halbig carded a 75 (+3) in the final round. Childs ended up in 12th place, finishing at three-over for the tournament. Halbig was tied for 13th at +4. USC's Lizette Salas was the individual medalist at eight-under (208).

"It was a very disappointing final round for us," said Head Coach Nancy McDaniel. "We got off to a rocky start and never recovered. We felt that we were in a good place with our ball striking as we transitioned over to the other course, but the more challenging of the two courses just proved to much. We never got that momentum going."

"We did have four rounds under par, so that was encouraging. It gives us a lot of hope for the spring season."

The Bears will break until the spring, returning to pracitce in January and then back to competition on Feb. 8 when they tee off at the Northrop Gruman Regional Challenge in Rancho Palos Verdes.
