Nicola Rössler leads the Topy Cup at the conclusion of day one

TANGURA, Japan - The Golden Bears got off to a fast start at the Topy Cup being played in Tanagura, Japan and lead the way at the end of day one with a combined score of 280. Junior Nicola Rössler and freshman Hannah Suh led California on the day, each posting a score of 70. Freshman Carly Childs' 71 and senior Jackie Williams' 79 rounded out the scores for the Bears.

"It was a very solid start of the season for the Bears today," said head coach Nancy McDaniel We handled the heat and the Bermuda grass with confidence and had a great time communicating with our Japanese competitors. Nico is back from Germany hitting the ball very long and solid and our NorCal freshman are holding their own on this young squad."

Freshman Roberta Röller is also competing in the tournament for the Bears, but her score of 89 was dropped in the team posting for day one.

Play continues tomorrow, Sep. 12, when the teams tee off for round two of the three day, 54-hole tournament.
