SAN DIEGO - The No. 10 California Golden Bear women's golf team closed out the first round of the Battle of the Rancho Bernardo Inn tied for sixth place. After Sunday's round was completely washed out, the field of 16 teams teed off on Monday at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Championship Golf Course'a Short Course, a par-72, 6267 yard course. The Bears finished the first round with a team score of 303, ten strokes back of the tournament leader, Tulane. Senior Daniela Holmqvist had the low round for the Bears, carding a two-over 74. Holmqvist had a tough start, doubling on her first hole (10), but then shot three birdies in the first nine holes to make the turn at even par. She had two bogeys in the final stretch to end at two-over. Senior Emily Childs and sophomore Nicola Roessler finished at +4 with Senior Joanne Lee at +5. Freshman Morgan Thompson is playing in her first tournament as part of the official five-person lineup for the Bears, shooting at 78 in the first round. Freshman Jo Ee Kok is playing as an individual, shot a four-over 76. The teams will finish the rain-shortened tournament with a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, March 20.
