SAN JOSE, Calif. - California sits second at 11-over after playing two rounds Monday at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite at the Almaden Golf Club in San Jose.
The Bears 291-296=587 (+11) shot three-over in Monday's first round with Carly Childs leading the way with a score of 70 before the Bears shot eight-over in Monday's second round that was highlighted by Hannah Suh's 69 (-3).
After 36 holes, Suh is third on the individual leaderboard at 76-69=145 (+1), four strokes behind the leader and one stroke behind second place. After battling through a rough first round - and a double-bogey on the par-5 18th - Suh collected herself in the second round with four birdies and just one bogey for her three-under 69.
Nicola Rossler sits tied for 11th at 73-75=148 (+4). The junior hit par on 13 of her first 18 holes before finishing her 36 at four-over. Childs's strong first round was beset by four birdies and a triple bogey in the second round, but the freshman is just three strokes out of the top five.
Morgan Thompson also had a strong first round, shooting an even 72 before running into eight bogeys on just two birdies in the second round for a 72-78=150 (+6). Jaqueline Williams shot 77-74=151 (+7), a triple bogey on the second round 11th hole spoiling what otherwise would have been an under-par round.
California continues action Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
