Junior Emily Childs was the individual medalist. The tournament, which was called due to rain midway through Saturday's first round, began Sunday under sunnier skies with the resumption of first round and the entirety of the second round at the par-71 6148 yard course. The Bears finished the first round with a 292 (+8) and an 11-stroke lead over second place. The Bears were much improved in the second round, ending with a 287 at three-over for the round. They finished the 36-hole tournament at 11-over. This is the 23rd team victory in Cal history and the team's second this season. They also won the Edean Ihlandfelt Invitational in October. "We went down to Stanford with some specific goals in mind," head coach Nancy McDaniel said. "We got in two really good days of playing." Junior Emily Childs won the second individual medalist honors of her careers, coming in as the only player under-par for the tournament. Childs was two-over (73) after the first round, but went four-under (67) on the second round to end the tournament at -2. "We are very proud of Emily getting her second win," McDaniel said. "She shot a 67 today in good weather. Even more impressive was the 33 she had in the front nine in the rain in round one. She showed a lot of stability." Junior Daniela Holmqvist finished second. Holmqvist shot a 69 (-2) in the opening round and closed with a three-over 74 in the final round, putting her at +1 for the tournament. The second-place finish was her best showing as a Cal Bear.
"Daniela was right there the entire way," McDaniel said. "It was fun to see her going head to head with Emily. It is always a good feeling to have two of your players battling for the win." The Bears had four players finish in the top-10. Junior Joanne Lee finished seventh at +6. Senior Pia Halbig finished in a tie for eighth at +7. "It was a good team effort," McDaniel said. The Bears will be back in action Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at the Juli Inkster Invitational in San Jose.
