PALO ALTO, Calif. - California finished its spring opener with a second place finish after shooting 285-298=582 (+15) at the Peg Barnard Invitational, hosted by Stanford University at the Stanford Golf Course. Sophomore Morgan Thompson finished fourth individually with a 69-72=141 (-1) to pace the Bears on the weekend. Hannah Suh shot a 72-75=147 (+5) to finish 12th, Jacqueline Williams and Carly Childs both finished 17th with 149's (+7) and junior Nicola Rossler finished with a 73-77=150 (+8). Thompson shot birdies on the first, fifth and seventh on the front nine before shooting two over on the back nine for her one-over 72 second round. No. 18 Stanford won the tournament with a 289-280=569 (+1) courtesy of a four-under second day. The Bears in second finished ahead of No. 10 UC Davis at 296-293=589 (+21) and No. 2 Washington at 295-295=590 (+22). California next hosts the Cal Classic next week at Ruby Hill.
