Claire Dougherty and the Bears look to win the NorPac Tournament

California heads to the NorPac tournament needing the victory to make the NCAA field. They've earned the third seed in the west, and they'll play the number two seed in the East, Longwood, at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. The winner of the game will play the victor of the the Stanford vs. Radford game on Friday. The tournament final will be played Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Final Week Split
California played their final two games of the regular season last week and split the pair. At Stanford, the Bears dropped a 2-0 decision. On Friday evening, it was the Bears earning the shutout, 6-0, over the UC Davis Aggies. It was senior day for the Bears, with seven Bears making their final appearance at Maxwell Family Field, and five of them earned at least one point in the game. Senior forward Rachelle Comeau scored two goals and earned two assists. Senior Claire Dougherty scored another two goals. Senior Kendra Bills tallied her second goal of the season. Finally, senior Laura Spellman earned an assist in the contest. For her efforts on the defensive end in the contest, freshman Clara Goni was named NorPac West Rookie of the Week.

In the Cage
Goalies Joelle can Hoorn and Courtney Hendrickson have allowed just 29 goals this season in 17 games, compiling a GAA of 1.68 and a save percentage of .762. Van Hoorn's GAA of 1.45 and save percentage of .789 are first in the NorPac. The team GAA leads the league. Van Hoorn has 3.2 shutouts on the season, and notched a career high 17 saves against PSU. Hendrickson allowed only two goals in her two starts last week, and earned the victory in the shuout over UC Davis. She was named NorPac defensive player of the week for her performance.

Kruggel Dominating
Sophomore midfielder Lara Kruggel leads the Bears on the season with fifteen goals. The total blew away her freshman total of eight goals. The 15 goals are good for second place in the NorPac. Last years NorPac Rookie of the Year also is first in the NorPac with .88 goals per game, first with 2.12 points per game, and is tied for first with 36 total points. Kruggel is third in the league with 85 shots. She is also tied for 7th in the league and second on the team with six assists. Kruggel and the Bears are third in the league in scoring margin at +.67. Her five goals, 15 shots, and ten points vs. Pacific were league highs on the season.

Kennedy, Elmitt Atop the Record Books
Junior Deanna Kennedy now holds sole possession of first place in the Cal record book with 37 career assists. Junior midfielder Shannon Elmitt is also etching her name in the books, her seven assists this year are first on the team and tied for third in the league and give her 24 for her career to place her seventh in the record books. Her four assists against Pacific was a league high on the season.
