BERKELEY - The California field hockey team returns home after a 12 day break to face its fourth ranked opponent of the season in the No. 13 Stanford Cardinal. Last year, Cal lost both games during the regular season to Stanford with each having the final score, 3-2. In the NorPac Tournament, however, the Golden Bears defeated the Cardinal, 1-0, to advance to the NCAA Tournament play-in game.

Bears Split on the Road Last week, the Bears lost their fourth one goal decision of the year and second overtime game of the year to the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, Sep. 15, 2-1, in a competitive yet controversial match. Caroline Struijk scored her second goal of the season for Cal. The following day, the Bears soundly beat the Missouri State Bears, 5-2. Jordan O'Reilly scored two goals in the contest while taking only three shots, while Lara Kruggel, Nicole Wanstedt, and Claire Dougherty acdded one goal a piece. For her efforts in the victory, O'Reilly was named NorPac West Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the win. In the Cage Goalies Joelle can Hoorn and Courtney Hendrickson have allowed just nine goals this season, compiling a GAA of 1.18 and a save percentage of .769. Van Hoorn's GAA of 1.17 and save percentage of .760 are first in the NorPac. Nationall, the GAA is good for sixth and save percentage ranks 16th. Kruggel Dominating Lara Kruggel leads the Bears and the NorPac on the season with eight goals through seven games. Last years NorPac Rookie of the Year also leads the NorPac with 1.14 goals per game, 2.29 points per game, and 16 total points. Kruggel is third in the league with 36 shots. Kruggel and the Bears lead the league in scoring margin at +1.44. Nationally, Kruggel ranks thirteenth in points per game and seventh in goals per game. Elmitt Plays, Onstead Coaches in PanAmerican Junior Games Junior midfielder Shannon Elmitt return to the team after missing the last two matches while representing Canada in the PanAmerican Junior Games. Elmitt and her teammates made the finals and qualified for the 2013 Junior World Cup. Both tournaments play a big part in the selection for the 2016 Olympic games to be held in Rio de Janeiro. Head coach Shellie Onstead also returns from Guadalajara, Mexico where on assignment as the assistant coach of the US squad. The team won the third place game against Chile, and will advance to the 2013 Junior World Cup. THE LAST MEETING
