BERKELEY - The No. 22 Golden Bears play the final game of their five game homestead on Friday, Sep. 7 at 7 p.m. against the Drexel Dragons. The Golden Bears are 2-2 through their first four games. The Dragons will be the third team ranked in the top 25 that the Bears will meet in their first five contests.
Cal played Drexel last year in west Philadelphia, defeating the Dragons, 3-2, in an overtime victory.
Cal is led by sophomore midfielder Lara Kruggel, whose six goals lead the team. Her three goals scored against the Bryant University Bulldogs Monday in a 5-0 victory were the most scored in a single game by a Cal player this year. She is joined by six other teammates who have scored this year.
The Golden Bears have been strong on the defensive end as well. In four games, freshman goalie Joelle van Hoorn has allowed only three goals. In addition, both of her wins have come as shutouts. For her efforts, van Hoorn has been named the NorPac West Defensive Player of the Week for both the first two weeks of the season.
Drexel last played against UC Davis on Wednesday, Sep. 5, and won, 5-0.
