Cal Defeats Rival Pacific, 4-2

STOCKTON, Calif.--The California Golden Bears defeated the Pacific Tigers, 4-2, Wednesday in
Stockton. The non-conference win improves the Bears record to 3-4 overall,
while the Tigers fell to 1-6 on the season.
Both teams were held scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the half, until
Cal junior Katherine Garofalo scored her first goal of the year to give the
Bears the 1-0 first half lead with 18:17 remaining.
In the second half, Cal extended its lead to 2-0 on a goal by sophomore
Catlin Braucht goal. But, 32 seconds later Beth Vechinski scored the first
of her two goals in the match to narrow the gap to 2-1. Also in the second
half, sophomore Megan Sainsbury and newcomer Kimber Joyce gave the Bears
added insurance when they recorded their first goals of the season to up
the score to 4-1. All of Calis goals were unassisted.
The Bear offense proved to be in working order as they outshot the Tigers
12-4. Senior Karen Hagan tallied three saves in the victory.
