Cal Defeats Michigan State, 3-0

BERKELEY, Calif. - The California field hockey team defeated Michigan State, 3-0, in the season opener Friday on Kleeberger Field. Freshman Leslie Katch started the scoring with a goal seven minutes in to the game off an assist by freshman Deborah Clark. In the second half, Cal extended its lead to 3-0 on a back-to-back penalty corners one minute apart by Sarah Baron and Megan Sainsbury.

Senior Karen Hagan posted her first shutout of the year with five saves.

Cal returns to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. versus Michigan.
