Bears Field Hockey Mauls UC Davis, 6-0
Berkeley, CA -- The California women's field hockey team rebounded from a loss to Stanford yesterday to shutout the UC Davis Aggies, 6-0. Freshman Deb Clark had a hat-trick for Cal, which had an offensive outpour of 21 shots. The Bears improved their record to 4-5 overall.
Sophomore Sara Baron netted her fifth goal on the year to put the Bears on the board for their first score with 26:59 remaining in the first half. Sophomore Kelli Mirassou recorded her first goal of the season nine minutes later (17:45), while Clark rounded out the first period, scoring with 3:06 remaining. Cal entered the break with the 3-0 lead.
In the second half, the Golden Bears had three straight goals in three minutes and 19 seconds to earn the 6-0 blowout. Clark hit for two more goals and freshman Leslie Katch notched her third goal of the year. Cal's stingy defense held the Aggies scoreless and allowed no shots on goal.
The Bears return to conference action Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they will meet Pacific in Stockton for 3 p.m. matchup. Cal has already defeated UOP this season, 4-2, in an earlier non-conference game.
