No. 14 Cal Falls to No. 18 Virginia

The 14th-ranked California field hockey team lost its second game of the season Friday night at University Hall Turf Field to Virginia, 3-2. The loss snapped the Golden Bears' five-game winning streak, as they fall to 6-2 (1-0 in NorPac). The Cavaliers improve their record to 5-3 for the season

All the scoring came in the first half, as senior Danya Sawyer knocked a goal in six minutes into the game to put Cal up, 1-0. Virginia responded with a goal of its own from midfielder Sara York to tie the game at one apiece. Kelli Hill gave Virginia the 2-1 lead as she scored her fifth goal of the season. Junior Nora Feddersen tied the game up for Cal at 2-2 off of a short corner shot. Virginia's Katie Nicholson fired in the go-ahead goal to clinch Virginia's victory.

The Bears return to action Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. (ET) at Artificial Turf Facility, in College Park, MD, facing No. 1 Maryland.
