November 1, 1996 Cal Shuts Out Pacific, 4-0Golden Bears to play Stanford for conference title on SundayBERKELEY, CA. -- Senior Erica Friesen, playing in her final home game, scored two goals to lead the Cal field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Pacific Friday at Kleeberger Field. With the win, the Bears improve to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the NorPac Conference, while UOP falls to 2-9, 0-4. Friesen scored her first goal with 11:21 left in the first half off a pass from Becky Bewley. Megan Sainsbury followed with a goal two minutes later to put Cal up 2-0 at the half. Less than six minutes into the second period, Friesen scored again, this time unassisted. Sophomore Elke Popp then wrapped up the scoring with a goal with 21:41 left. Cal will play Stanford, also 3-1 in the NorPac, for the conference title Sunday at 1 p.m. in Stockton.
