Providence Edges Cal in Field Hockey, 1-0

Alissa Wickles, with an assist from Mirandi Balg, scored the long goal of the game with 11:04 remaining in the first half to lead Providence to a 1-0 victory over host Cal Saturday in field hockey.

A defensive battle throughout the contest, Cal's Megan Sainsbury provided the Bears only shot on goal in the first half. For the game, Providence outshot Cal, 9-7.

The final score marked just the second time this year that Cal has been shut out. With the loss, the Bears fell to 3-6, while Providence improved to 5-6.
