California defeated Stanford, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept. 7 in an overtime struggle at Kleeberger Field. With the score tied 0-0 after 70 minutes of play and eight shot attempts by the Bears, senior Erica Friesen broke the tie with 2:01 remaining in overtime. Friesen is the Bears top returning scorer from 1995 with five goals. Goalkeeper Karen Hagan finished up the match with six saves, improving her goals against average to .46. The victory gives Cal a 1-0 record in the NorPac Conference.
