Women's crew assistant coach, and novice coach, Sara Nevin, was named Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for the West region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Nevin, in her third season at Cal, led the novice eight to its first Pac-10 title since 1989 at this year's championship regatta. Last season, the novice Bears were undefeated in dual races, and finished second at the Pac-10 championships.

The CRCA Assistant Coach of the Year award is designed to honor a member CRCA Assistant Coach who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to his/her program, has had a significant impact on the success of his/her program, and who has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach
