BERKELEY - Nineteen student-athletes from California's Pac-10 championship team earned recognition on the 2008 Pac-10 Women's Rowing All-Academic teams, as announced last week by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. Eight members of Cal's varsity eight that contributed to the Bears' third-place finish at the recent NCAA Women's Rowing Championships garnered first team, second team or honorable mention accolades. Four Bears overall were named to the first team, eight were on the second team and seven earned honorable mention.

The Bears who earned conference academic honors were the following: Seniors - Mara Allen (second team), Summer Ohlendorf (second team), Onna Poeter (second team), Ali Seders (second team) and Candice Rediger (honorable mention); Juniors - Krista Ellis (first team), Elena Humphreys (first team), Lou Kinder (first team), Vanna Rocchi (first team), Katy Milton (second team), Melissa Herman (honorable mention), Lauren Nowinski (honorable mention), Kaiti Seders (honorable mention) and Sam Silvia (honorable mention); Sophomores - Jill Costello (honorable mention), Adrienne Keller (second team), Katie Luke (second team), Taryn O'Connell (second team) and Kirsten Campbell (honorable mention).

 

 

To be eligible for selection to the Pac-10 academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average, be either a starter or substitute of significant contribution, and be in her second academic year.
