This Week: No. 8 California heads to Rancho Cordova for the Pac-10 championships held on Lake Natoma. The Golden Bears have won the past three conference titles and are looking to capture another before heading to the NCAA championships three weeks from now. Cal is coming off wins against Washington on the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four levels.

The Competition: The varsity eight field includes six crews ranked in the Top 20 by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing Poll. No. 1 USC, No. 8 California, No. 10 UCLA, No. 16 Washington, No. 18 Stanford and No. 20 Oregon State will all be in the hunt for the Pac-10 title.

Last Year at the Pac-10 Championships: The Bears finished first in the team competition in the 2006 Pac-10 Championships, repeating Cal's 2004 and 2005 performances. The Cal varsity four cruised to victory, winning by more than nine seconds. The Bears' novice eight fell to a two-second deficit after 500 meters and never caught up, eventually finishing more than seven seconds behind Gonzaga. The Bears finished first in the second varsity eight race, two seconds ahead of UCLA. The varsity eight race was one of the day's closest. Cal jumped out to an early .33-second lead after 500 meters. The Bears were able to hold onto this lead throughout, finishing just one second ahead of Washington State.

Washington Dual Recap (April 28, 2007): The Bears won three of their four races in dual competition against Stanford. The Cal varsity eight won their fourth consecutive dual match against Washington, finishing 6.4 seconds ahead of the Huskies. The second varsity eight and varsity four won their races, while the novice eight fell to Washington.
