BERKELEY - California women's crew head coach Dave O'Neill has continued his great recruiting, this year signing 10 athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI). This class of NLI signees is the largest group of recruits for one year in the history of Cal women's crew.
Along with these 10 athletes to sign NLIs, several athletes have verbally committed to rowing for the Golden Bears, but did not officially sign. The incoming group of NLI signees comes from various backgrounds, and only a single pair of athletes currently row for the same club team. Seven of the athletes are from California, two are from Ontario and one is from Oregon.
With Cal's current team being very young, O'Neill expects this class to have a significant impact on the team next season.
"This incoming class is impressive in many ways," said O'Neill. "I am really looking forward to working with them, individually and as a team. Each of them possess the attitude and work ethic that is so important to us, and we focused our recruiting on athletes who want to do well as a team. They will form the foundation for our future success."
