GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The Cal women's varsity eight advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Women's Rowing Championship after two rounds of racing on Lake Lanier Friday.
In the morning heats, Cal missed out on the third qualifying spots when it finished fourth behind Brown, Northeastern and Virginia. In the afternoon repechage, or second chance race, the Bears got off the line smartly and established itself as one of the leading crews. Cal eventually finished third to claim one of three berths in the semis that were up for grabs.
"We had a good race this afternoon in the repechage," said coach Marisa Hurtado. "We have an uphill battle ahead of us, but with another strong race we should be in the hunt for a berth in the final."
