SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Cal women's varsity crew had a strong showing at the Pac-10 Rowing Championships as the Bears brought home a two silvers and a bronze medal from Lake Natoma in Sacramento.
""Of course we're disappointed we didnt come home with a championship," said coach Marisa Hurtado. "Our program's depth has improved so much over the course of the year. I am proud to be able to say that we're No. 2 as a program on the West Coast."
The University of Washington won all three of the women's eights events. The Cal varsity and novice crews each finished second while the JV eight finished third behind both UW and Washington State. While the Huskies established early leads in all three of the of the eights races, the Cal novice eight battle back to challenge the Huskies at the finish line. After overcoming over a boat-length deficit, the Bears fell six inches short at the finish.
All-Pac-10 honors were awarded to Golden Bears, Marlowe Penfold, Cory Bosworth, and Whitney Webber.
