BERKELEY - The No. 13 California Golden Bear women's basketball team will host a FREE preseason exhibition game Thursday night when the Vanguard Lions come to Haas Pavilion, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

There is FREE general admission for the Vanguard exhibition game, however seats in the reserved seat sections (1,2,3,15,16 and 17 and portions of 4 and 28) will still require a reserved seat ticket.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. There will be a pregame Chalk Talk, presented by assistant coach Kai Felton, in the Club Room at 6 p.m. open to all fans.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Cal has played an exhibition game against the ten-time NAIA Golden State Athletic Conference-champion Lions. This is Cal's only exhibition contest of the season, however fans will also have the opportunity for another look at the Bears this Sunday with an open practice scheduled for 10 a.m. at Haas Pavilion. The Bears open the regular season with five consecutive home games beginning next Friday, Nov. 9, against Lehigh at 7 p.m.

A Look at the Golden Bears
The Golden Bears open the season ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and No. 15 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, the highest preseason rankings since the Bears came in at No. 9 in the 2008-09 season. Lindsay Gottlieb's team was also predicted to finish second in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll with 109 points and a first-place vote.

Cal returns four of its starters and 11 of its letterwinners from last year's squad that went 25-10 and 13-5 in the Pac-12. Earning the No. 2 seed in for the Pac-12 Conference Tournament, the Bears advanced to the championship game for the second time in program history. Cal went 25-10 last season and finished as the Pac-12 regular season and tournament runner-up in the first year of Coach Gottlieb's tenure with a 13-5 conference record in 2011-12. The Golden Bears return four starters and 11 leterwinners from last season's squad, including All-Pac 12 selection Layshia Clarendon and All-Freshman Team selections Brittany Boyd and Reshanda Gray.

Scouting Vanguard
The Vanguard Lions enter the season ranked No. 4 in the NAIA preseason poll after a 23-7 campaign last season. The Lions have made 11 consecutive postseason appearances. Based out of Costa Mesa, the Lions open the year with exhibitions against Cal, Stanford and UC Santa Barbara before embarking on their search for a second national championship under coach Russ Davis.
