BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior forward Ashley Walker was named Most Valuable Player of the Pete Newell Tall Women's Basketball Camp June 27-29 at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, Calif.

Walker attended the eighth-annual camp along with other elite college post players, including Baylor's Danielle Wilson and UConn's Kaili McLaren.

Newell, the legendary former California head men's basketball coach and Hall of Famer, gathered together some of the top teachers of the game for the Bay Area camp last weekend. The staff included Ann Meyers, a basketball Hall of Famer and four-time UCLA All-American and Ruthie Bolton, a former WNBA player and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Pete Newell, Jr., directed the daily drills.

Five players who previously attended Pete Newell's Tall Women's Camp are now playing in the WNBA - Cheryl Ford (Detroit Shock), Mistie Williams (Houston Comets), Jennifer Lacy (Phoenix Mercury), Sophia Young (San Antonio Silver Spurs) and Alison Bales (Indiana Fever).
